Lightning-fast charging of lithium batteries.
Yanmar Dynamo Upgrade
Makspower MP100 Mk.2 Dynamo, your best investment for more power in your boat, especially when you have lithium batteries that can take a lot of power

Makspower MP100 Mk.2 Dynamo for lightning fast charging
The Makspower MP 100 MK2 alternator is a further development of the MP 100 alternator, of which almost 100 units have been sold.
The Makspower MP 100 Mk2 has been tested for two years in the demo boat SØNDAG, Oceanis 50 with a Yanmar engine and two alternators. We have a Makspower lithium battery bank of 1200 Ah. The MP 100 MK 2 alternator has recharged close to 800 Ah time after time without any problems.
We have posted a video that shows what dynamoem can be good for.
What does it take for optimal results and the fastest possible charging?
In the Makspower video available on YouTube and our website, you can see that the alternator charges more than 180 amps before it reaches working temperature.
On the way to working temperature, the built-in voltage regulator reduces the charging current down to the alternator's temperature range. The temperature sensor follows so that the alternator thrives.

Why replace a Hitachi alternator with the Makspower MP 100 MK2 alternator?
It's all about having enough power in the boat to keep everyone happy. Power problems are perhaps the biggest cause of anxiety and stress in a vacation situation and especially on a long trip.
With enough power, fast charging and full control of the power situation, the boat experience we dream of becomes a reality.
The original dynamo on Yanmar engines is lazy. Recharging for a day's consumption is almost impossible unless you have planned a long motor trip. Most people want to sail from port to port as much as possible.
Charging 200-300 Ah with a lazy alternator is almost impossible. It's guaranteed to affect your mood if you try.
If you charge with a Makspower alternator, the situation will change considerably.

Why upgrade to the Makspower MP 100 MK2 alternator?
The original Hitachi 80 (or even smaller Hitachi) alternator normally charges less than 40 amps.
For example, if the consumption in the boat is 10 amps, the net charge is around 30 amps. A normal boat usually uses from 100 Ah (ampere hours) to more than 200 Ah per day, depending on whether there are one or two refrigerators, during sailing, in summer, fall, with a heater, autopilot in use or anything else that draws a lot of power.
The point is that an alternator that delivers 100 amps or more will multiply the charge to the battery bank. With a consumption of 10 amps, you now have 90 amps to charge with. That's three times as fast.
What do customers say?
"Hi Johan,
Just wanted to give feedback on a fantastic worry-free summer in the boat with the upgrade to lithium, alternator, cables and agrofet 🙂 ...not been necessary with solar cells at all 🙂
Just as I mentioned last time, let the people who buy a city alternator know that the rpm deviates slightly, but a cheap taco gauge from biltema and dymotape, then there is no problem :-)"

This is a reference on Makspower MP 100 first version. The MP 100 MK2 version delivers more power and requires a flat belt.
We use Yanmar original pulleys. Contact Makspower for guidance.

How do I install the Makspower MP 100 MK 2 alternator?
- The Makspower MP 100 MK2 alternator is very powerful. Watch the video on makspower.no and Youtube
- Convert to serpentine belt (flat) by changing to original Yanmar pulleys. V-belt can handle a maximum of approx. 100 amps charging.
- Use an electronic battery separator that can withstand at least 200 amps
- The 100 MK2 can deliver much more, especially when it's cold.
- Upgrade to tensioning arm with adjustment screw. Make sure the belt is tight at all times.
- Cables all the way from the alternator to the battery bank must be 50 mm and preferably 70 mm for a good result.
- Check that the negative connection from the engine block all the way to the battery bank is in perfect condition (often a forgotten chapter).
- Double-check that all connections are clean and tight.
- If you are in doubt about what to do, contact Makspower.
- Makspower MP 100 MK2 is by far the easiest way to get more power on board.

Makspower MP 100 Mk.2 Dynamo for Lithium battery (Yanmar)
Makspower MP100 Mk.2 Dynamo
Built-in voltage regulator:
For robust and easy control of alternator temperature, charging voltage and safe charging
External sense: The dynamo's sense wire checks the voltage on the battery bank's + pole, for maximum charge and full control that the batteries are not overcharged.
Maximum charging voltage: 14.4 volts
The built-in voltage regulator stops charging at approximately 14.4 volts or slightly below. This is the perfect maximum charging voltage for lithium batteries and most lead-based batteries such as AGM and GEL.
Charging at idle: about 50 Amps +, which is more than many original alternators at full speed.
Makspower MP 100 Mk.2 is perfectly programmed for cargo of Lithium batteries and lead-based batteries
