FAIRLINE SQUADRON 58

Fairline Squadron 58 - 2007

The goal of this installation:
- Maximum power without rebuilding existing battery boxes
- Seamless inverter solution if shore power disappears
- 230V throughout the boat
- Use 230V without starting the generator, which creates unrest in the boat and noise for the neighbors
- Full control of consumption, charging and battery status
Results:
The owner is very satisfied. Everything works as expected. The batteries charge at lightning speed and the Quattro switches seamlessly from shore power to pure sine 230 volts without it being noticeable on the TV or other 230 volt equipment.
As a bonus, the weight at the back of the boat was reduced by several hundred kilos.
Equipment installed:
- 1000Ah 24V Makspower Lithium batteries
- Victron Quattro 5000 24V combined 4KW Inverter / 120A 24V charger
- Digital MultiControl for control of Victron Quattro
- Victron BMV-712 Battery monitor with display and Bluetooth

Solution:
The battery bank consists of 10 pcs. Makspower 200 Ah BMS 200 A 12 volt lithium batteries connected in series to 24 volts.
This adds up to 1000 Ah at 24 volts. The battery bank can be charged with up to 1000 amps at 24 volts.
We chose these batteries because they fit perfectly in the battery case, the capacity is large and can easily supply Victron Quattro with enough power.

Before installation:

After installation:

Victron Quattro
Victron Quattro is a combined charger of 120 amps in 24 volts and 4 kw. inverter.
Victron Quattro has two AC inputs, which is perfect if there is a generator in the boat. The Quattro will then automatically select power from the generator or from shore power when it is available.
Victron Quattro can automatically switch from shore power to 230 volts from the batteries if the shore power disappears. The owner says that the TV does not so much as blink if the shore power goes and the inverter takes over.
Fast charging with Quattro and generator
The charging section in the Quattro is very powerful. When the generator is started, the Quattro charges the batteries very quickly with 120 amps. In addition, it is possible to charge with the engines' alternators. In this way, the generator can be used to charge batteries while driving.

Digital Multicontrol, Powershare
This is the control panel for the Victron Quattro. Here you can turn on the Quattro as a charger, as an inverter or turn the Quattro off.
Important function: With Digital Multicontrol, you can decide how many amps the boat should draw from the course ashore. This is a great advantage if several people share a course or the course is weak. If you charge the batteries and the water heater comes on, excess current is drawn from the batteries. This prevents the fuse from blowing ashore.
Installation:
Everything is installed by an approved installer. See the pictures of before and after installation of Makspower lithium batteries.
General information about the solution:
This solution is very popular and has been a bestseller for a long time. You get the same solution in 12, 24 and 48 volts.
We chose Victron Quattro for this boat because Quattro has two AC inputs: one for shore power and one for the generator. Quattro also has two AC outputs. This means that water heaters or other power consumers can be connected directly to shore power or they can be powered from the Quattro's inverter section.
Victron Quattro also has a sister product called Victron Multiplus. Multiplus comes in different versions, but the main difference is that it has an AC input and one or two AC inputs. If you don't have a generator, choose Victron Multiplus.
A major advantage of Quattro and Multiplus is that they become an integral part of the boat's 220 volt system. This means that you get pure sinusoidal power from the inverter section in all the boat's outlets.
An ordinary inverter has a life of its own and cannot easily be integrated into the boat's 220 volt outlet. In addition, the charging section in Quattro and Multiplus is very powerful.
