THE SHIP GRACE CONVERTS TO MAKSPOWER LITHIUM
FROM 580 KG AGM BATTERIES TO 200 KG MAKSPOWER LITHIUM BATTERIES.
BATTERY CAPACITY HAS ALMOST TRIPLED.

M/Y GRACE
Grace is a fantastic boat, not to mention ship, on the top shelf when it comes to experiences at sea. If you're invited aboard Grace, you'll have memories for life.
Length (hull): 36,30 m (120´)
- Width: 6,20 m
- Depth: 2,20 m
- Tonnage: 169 GRT
- Machines: Caterpillar 2 x 360 HP
- Speed: 12.5/10 knob
In addition, there is a very large generator capacity but also powerful inverters that generate 220 volts from the batteries. The inverters can draw up to 9 kW.

What is installed?
Batteries: 18pcs Makspower 100Ah Lithium Mini batteries in 24V (900Ah/h)
Battery monitoring: Victron BMV-712 Battery monitor
The goal of the upgrade:
Increasing the capacity of the battery bank and the possibility of producing 220 volts with an inverter without starting the generators. A noise-free boat.
Before with AGM batteries
The old lead batteries, 8 pcs. 210 Ah were connected in series in 24 volts. That is 800 Ah in 24 volts.
Weight 544 kilos.
Available capacity capacity = 320 Ah.
(counted as max 40% of stated capacity).
The goal was 8 hours of inverter operation. Result: 12 hours.
Why do this?
The goal: Increasing the capacity of the battery bank and the possibility of producing 220 volts with an inverter without starting the generators. A noise-free boat.

The old lead batteries, 8 pcs. 210 Ah were connected in series in 24 volts. That is 800 Ah in 24 volts.

Increase battery capacity with lithium
With Makspower Lithium batteries, battery capacity is almost tripled
There is now 900 Ah in 24 volts in the same space as the old batteries. It is possible to utilize all capacity without damaging the Makspower batteries.
But let's say 90% utilization, that will give available capacity 800 Ah
That's almost three times as much capacity as before.
Weight: 200 kg.
A weight reduction of 300 kilos doesn't mean much in this boat. In many boats, it can mean a great deal.
Life expectancy of Makspower Lithium batteries:
In many places, we can read about the number of cycles lithium batteries should withstand. These are laboratory figures that have little or nothing to do with practical use. A Cycel is
discharging the battery in one hour and recharging it in one hour. If Makspower cycles the batteries 2500 - 3000 times in this way, there is still more than 80% capacity left. In normal use, the batteries are depleted within a few days and usually not completely. The number of cycles then increases to almost infinity.
Real-world experience speaks volumes about the quality of Makspower Lithium batteries:
Makspower has supplied thousands of lithium batteries to boats, cabins, motorhomes and industry for almost 8 years.
After all these years, we have five batteries that are faulty. In other words, almost all the batteries are working perfectly and after more than 7 years for the first ones we delivered.
This shows the real quality of Makspower batteries in the real world.
This is where we find ourselves.
